“Suicide: Inside the Research”

Learning Objectives

 

  • Participants will learn about AFSP and the Research Connection. Participants will learn how The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the largest private funder of suicide prevention research, shaping suicide prevention strategies around the world. 

  • Participants will learn about the link between suicide and sleep and important information clinicians should know about sleep and suicide.

Bio

Catina Struble is the Executive Director of the American Foundation for Suicide

Prevention (AFSP) in Utah, where she leads statewide efforts to reduce the loss of life to suicide and support those impacted by suicide loss. With an extensive background in nonprofit management, strategic planning, fundraising, and program development.

Catina is recognized for her ability to build strong community partnerships, develop sustainable initiatives, and create meaningful impact across diverse populations. Throughout her career, Catina has dedicated herself to championing mental health awareness, expanding access to resources, and empowering individuals to prioritizeself-care and connection.

Her leadership at AFSP Utah is marked by a commitment to evidence-based prevention strategies, volunteer engagement, and collaborative outreach with schools, healthcare systems, workplaces, and local organizations.

Catina’s mission is grounded in compassion and hope: to save lives and ensure that no one affected by suicide struggles alone. She is certified in both SafeTALK and ASIST, enabling her to provide high-quality training, support, and education to individuals and communities looking to strengthen their suicide prevention skills.

 

Driven, empathetic, and deeply dedicated to service, Catina continues to amplify AFSP’s vision of a world without suicide—one built on understanding, connection, and the belief that every life holds immeasurable value.

There is a $5 registration fee for non-members of the UTAHSWA payable via Stripe or Venmo
