The Utah Social Work Association is holding our first Half-Day Intensive of 2024. We’re excited to welcome Andrés Larios Brown to provide a high quality educational opportunity.  We will have in-person options as well as a virtual attendance option. See details below.

Objectives

  • Have an increased awareness of the impact of heteronormative & cisnormative socio/political climate on queer identity development

  • Have an increased understanding of the complex trauma presentations for LGBTQIA+ people.

  • Be able to apply trauma healing principles and practices for LGBTQIA+ clients, including gender affirming care. 

Speaker

Andres Larios Brown, M.S., LMFT (They/Elle)

Andres Larios Brown, M.S., LMFT (They/Elle) is a Queer & Non-Binary mescla bella (beautiful mix) of both Guatemalan and Western European ancestry. Currently, they are AVP of Clinical Services at Encircle, a non-profit that provides mental health services for LGBTQIA+ youth, people, and families here in Utah. They are also an Adjunct instructor at Utah Valley University’s MSW program and University of Oregon’s CFT program. 

Throughout their career, they have focused on better understanding queer identity development among collectivist and community-focused cultures, as well as healing acute, systemic, and intergenerational trauma for QTBIPOC people. They focus on reclaiming healing practices and have been trained in a variety of healing modalities, including EMDR, Psychedelic assisted therapy for PTSD, Curandismo, and Radical Healing for QTBIPOC communities. They believe that we are truly whole when in connection and community and they seek to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice.

Pricing: $10 for Members of UTAHSWA, $30 for Non-Members (pricing is for either virtual or in-person options)

Continuing Education Credit

For those that have registered in-person and virtually, this event will offer 3.0 hours of CE credit. This presentation schedule has been approved for CEU credit by the Utah Social Work Association Executive Board.

Space is limited and there are 50 in-person seats available.  Virtual registration is also available and there will be well enough space virtually if in-person reaches capacity.  The price for non-members is fixed at $30 for both in-person and virtual attendance.  See below for options on how to register.  For members, the cost to register for either in-person or virtual is $10.
