The Utah Social Work Association is holding our first Half-Day Intensive of 2025. We’re excited to welcome presenters from Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) and Holy Cross Ministries to provide a high quality educational opportunity.  We will have in-person options as well as a virtual attendance option. Objectives

First Presentation: Jana Johansen, CMHC – DOPL (9 AM – 1030 AM)

  1. Overview of Statute Changes Related to the 2024 Legislative Session
  2. Rule Changes that Support Statute
  3. Investigation Process Overview

Second Presentation: Emmie Gardner & Lorina Tester, Holy Cross Ministries (1030 AM – 12 PM)

  1. Understand current impact of immigrants on the US Economy
  2. Impact of current Executive Orders and legislative changes on our Immigrant community
  3. How to be an ally for our Utah Immigrant Community and the emotional toll they are experiencing

Speakers

Jana Johansen, CMHC

Jana Johansen is a Licensing Administrator with the Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Professional Licensing, and has been with the Division for over 12 years.  She facilitates all mental health licensure in Utah as well as overseeing the Behavioral Health Board, the Board’s three advisory Committees, an investigation team, and licensing staff.   Jana sits as the Utah commissioner on the Psychology (PSYPACT), Counselor (CMHC), and Social Work Compact Commissions as well as being newly elected as the Executive Secretary for the Social Work Compact.

Emmie Gardner, MSW, LCSW

Emmie is a long time member, past president, and active board member of the Utah Social Work Association. She is a passionate leader in the community with a demonstrated history of working in non profit health and mental health care and social services agencies. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Team Building, Public Speaking, Healthcare Information Technology (HIT), and Management. Strong community and social services professional with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Univ. of Utah and a graduate certification in mediation and conflict resolution as well. She is the current CEO of Holy Cross Ministries

 

Lorina Tester, J.D.

Lorina Tester is a mission focused legal advisor and attorney with expertise in U.S. immigration policy and procedure. She currently serves as the Director of the Legal Immigration Program at Holy Cross Ministries (HCM), a non-profit organization that provides wraparound services in health, education and justice. For more than 20 years, Lorina has provided legal expertise to universities, medical schools, multinational corporations, entrepreneurs, performing artists, and nonprofit organizations. In 2020, she began working for HCM to provide legal representation in humanitarian visa cases and develop collaborative community outreach programs to promote social justice.

Pricing: $5 for Members of UTAHSWA (virtual or in-person), $20 for Non-Members in-person, $15 for non-members virtual

Continuing Education Credit

For those that have registered in-person and virtually, this event will offer 3.0 hours of ETHICS CE credit. This presentation schedule has been approved for CEU credit by the Utah Social Work Association Executive Board.

Space is limited and there are approximately 80 in-person seats available.  Virtual registration is also available and there will be well enough space virtually if in-person reaches capacity.  The price for non-members is $15 for virtual participation and $20 for in-person attendance.  See below for options on how to register via Eventbrite.  For members, the cost to register for either in-person or virtual is $5.
