Objectives
1. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to support cancer patients who are on hospice.
2. Participants will learn about verbiage and ways to communicate with patients who are on hospice.
3. Participants will gain a better understanding of ways to support and work with patients who are on hospice.
BIO
Rachal Buchanan is an LCSW currently practicing at Huntsman Cancer Hospital where she provides patient and family support to cancer patients and survivorship counseling for those patients that have completed treatment. She has spent the majority of her nearly 15 years as a hospice and home health social worker. Her most recent hospice work was with the Huntsman at Home program specialized for cancer patients from Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
She received her undergraduate degree in social work from Weber State University, a Master’s degree in social work from Utah State University and a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Weber State University. Rachal has advanced certification in hospice and palliative care social work as well as in oncology social work.
Rachal enjoys her volunteer work as a court appointed special advocate (CASA) for the foster care system. She also spends as much time as she can either hiking or knitting.
