• Identify funeral customs and rituals specific to Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and Hindu faiths as well as Asian culture.

• Understand how these customs and rituals impact patients and their loved ones.

• Communicate more confidently with patients of different faiths and cultures about end-of-life issues.

• Provide more appropriate and informed advice to patients of these faiths and cultural backgrounds.

• Develop stronger patient relations based on greater knowledge and understanding

BIO:

Reg Ecker has been serving families as a funeral director since the mid 1980’s. Reg is a graduate of Ricks College, now Brigham Young University-Idaho, and the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.

He is an advisory committee chair member of the Salt Lake Community College Mortuary Science Program, former chairperson of the Utah State Funeral Service Board and chairman of the board for Utah Federal

Credit Union. Reg feels it is very rewarding to give back and be involved in the community in which he lives and works.
